YIPE's staff will assist participants with building  resumes for job searches. This is done by getting them to open up about their accomplishments at school, their volunteer work in the community, or the chores they do to help out at home.

Knowledge, insight, industriousness, and perseverance are the keys to success.

"Knowledge, insight, hard work , and endurance are the pathways that lead  to success.

Know Yourself

It's important to know about yourself  before thinking about the type of career you want. For instance, it is good to know what your interests and  what your strengths are, and how these two attributes match with your career goals.

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

HOW IT ALL COMES TOGETHER

I can truly so that I feel so honored to serve as the Executive Director of YIPE in Iredell County, Inc.  This organization gives me the opportunity to work with our future in a capacity that allows them to grow at their own pace.

Our office is conveniently located in the Historic Downtown Statesville.  It is  centrally located and accessible to anyone in the age category that has an interest in exploring the business world with the "hands on" approach.  The youth are allowed to come without any reference to any issues as it relates to  familiar, environmental, social, educational, etc.  We practice the real world requirements of employers not serving as social workers but expecting workers to show up prepared and ready for work.

Each new person will complete an assessment and  participate in eight  fun hours of communication and customer service training which include two hours of  visiting downtown offices, financial institutions, local government, city and county officials, etc.

Even though this organization was just founded on November 2, 2017 it has already done some incredible things for participating youth in Iredell County.

YIPE stands for Young Individuals Pursuing Employment. This organization works with youth between the ages of 14 -21.

I have many years of experience having worked at Salisbury Housing Authority from 1991 through 2001 and Statesville Housing Authority from 2006 through 2015.  With the combination of these two positions I learned of the importance of promoting employment early on in life.  Employment is something that our youth are never too young to start thinking about.  That's what YIPE was created for.  I want to give all youth the opportunity to explore, discuss and create businesses early in life.

Having been a very shy person until the age of 27 and really realizing that it was all centered around my unwillingness to push myself to communicate with people outside of my family to include church, school, athletics, etc.  It wasn't that I didn't want to, but that I had not been exposed or required  to socialized externally.  So, with that being said, YIPE is designed to assist our youth in becoming better communicators.
